This undercoating process really wasn't that hard, and it went pretty quick. I wish I had done it years ago. It would have saved me an awful lot of work! Have an awesome weekend everybody! Hey John, the Vevor link isn’t working?
I was amazed to see there was no plastic liners fitted from the factory. For $100 its peace of mind for a farm truck. Great job John 😃
I was looking at an ad for rust proofing material treatment and then checked RUclips and this video was the first thing I saw. Wild. Thanks for the good work.
Great work on this one, John.
😮 Went OK?? Sometimes you're too tough on yourself. Looks great.. and SOLID!
For the cost of about a year of payments you gain another 10 years of use. That is a win for sure. Great job!
Yes it’s farmcraft yoooooooo!!!!
Ordered kit at 9:52 seconds. Great looking kit and had me at metric included. Great salemanship! JON. LOL.
Good amount of work. I would buy this plastic cover for wheel is going to be good thing for this pickup.
There will be some things to change, but will be worth.
I think these things should be done even when buying a new car.
Have an F-150 on the "to-do" list with roughly the same amount of rust. Your videos on this project were very informative and are keepers. Trucks are expensive and it was worth the effort.
Great work Jon!
I always coat my spare tire rim in fluid film too. I have had the rim rot out on me. Nice job.
Overall a good job and you most certainly extended the life of the truck!
"Don't Kick a sleeping Dog" Now you done, John showing the great looking Hydraulic Test Kit. The next big FarmCraft project after kicking Murphy will be plague with hydraulic systems problems.
Doser, was not kicked during or after the demonstration of this product.
Such a fascinating project. I went down a Fluid Film, Woolwax, SurfaceShield, Cosmoline rabbit hole recently, very interesting- even though I live in SW AZ and don't need it at all. I've had good luck with Raptor spray on bedliner on a bumper, and on the butt of a pistol that had some chowdered up grip serrations. I am really impressed what a thorough and thoughtful project this was. That truck has a real new lease on life.
The main thing is: Are you happy with it? And it was nice to see Jennifer. She dresses up the whole thing. This was fun.
This guy is a walking time machine. Does a few days of hard work and gets himself a brand new 2005 Ram Cummins. PFM
So what is the difference between a "Farm Use" license plate (which I saw on your truck) and a regular one? I first thought it meant that it would not leave the farm, but then you mention taking this truck down the Interstate and on vacations.
I think that he have normal license plate, this is just for privacy. So he do not have to blur his license plate.
Yeah, I have registered plates for it actually, but keep them covered for the videos. But a farm use plate does allow you to drive a vehicle that is used solely for farm work on state roads within a 75 mile radius. No fees, inspections, nada. It's a nice perk for farmers. That's how I drive my dump truck to the quarry.
Up here in Canada farm plates allow you to use "Purple" gasoline which is regular gas but is taxed different than regular fuel
@@justinpakarno4346
Interesting. Here in Italy we have blue colored diesel for farm use
@@justinpakarno4346 where can you buy dyed gas though? i looked into it years ago and it didnt seem like anyone on the east coast sold it
Always enjoy watching these videos. I've learned a lot from your channel throughout the years.
as for tape repairs, use gorilla tape and then brush over it with liquid blacktop crack repair - last ten years easy
came out better than i thought..great job
I noticed 6 years ago gravel dust building up in my rocker panels in my 2015 f250. I started washing them out at the car wash every now and then but it was too late! Rust bubbling through my cab corners where it held moisture in the dust!!! If I'd only taped off those access holes and fluid filmed then.... I'm going to use aluminum tape instead of gorilla tape on my access holes? Luv ya's from Kentucky!!!!
Excellent episode, as usual.
In Finland, back in the 80's it was mandatory for cars to be rust proofed by importers. They stopped it somewhere at the end of that decade. I wish people would still do it to new cars, it really should be done when there isn't any rust yet. Also its cheapest then, because you don't have to do any rust removal and repaint... I have had a couple of cars that someone fluidfilmed when new, and 10 years later they were still rust free. The coatings were starting to dry and peel away, so if I would have done the coating again, it would probably have been fine for another 10 years.
Mortske Repair's swears by taking the undercoated vehicle down a dirt road to cover the coating in dust. He says it keeps it good indefinitely.
Nice job, Jon! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jon, interesting video. I think it was well worth … especially as a RUclipsr . I think the plastic covers are a great idea, especially driving over gravel roads.
P.s., as a Canadian, feel free to keep those Canada Geese down there…we’re full up here. Also, I think we should call them Virginia Pigeons. 😊
that's a killer price on that test kit !!
Wow, what a crazy amount of work that was. But you did a really great job there, which should last several years for you! Will you make a review on the Vevor testing kit? Vevor seems to sponsor quite a bit, an estonian RUclipsr (Ants Pants) got some things from them, like a Plasma Cutter, welding maschines, and a Diesel Heater. Seems to work quite well for their price. Enjoy your weekend!
Iron phosphate is inert so it will not rust. Ospho makes a good primer for painting over. Great stuff. Your treatments should outlast the truck. Good job.
36:50 …. Yes, get the fender liners. Any bit of protection to prevent rusting again is worth it.
@20:32 left hand side, someone carved a sad face into your truck ;)
:-(
Good on you. If it ever gets stolen, one quick look under the tray will soon sort that out.
You did a really great job on this truck Jon...definitely more than doubled its value.
The fender liners you mentioned...are they a hundred buck each or for the pair? The pair would be worth it for sure.
All our cars have fender liners. I was surprised yours didn’t.
Great video I learned a few things and I learned a few things Not to do. 😂
You can dilute fluid film with water to get it to spray easy.
All private cars are fitted with wheel arch liners in the factory. It will protect the wheel arches from rocks and salt for the rest of the pickups life
This is the only dodge that will never rust again.
I have a 2006 RAM 2500 Cummins and it has fender liners and they are great, no rust anywhere.
for the tape, its common in auto industry (in europe anyway) which make me think : beware of condensation and humidity, when you close all the holes, if there is no way for moisture to go out, your rust issues will come back sooner than later i guess...
You should study what they use in Finland. Rust protection has long history there and it’s done for most cars. They use a lot of salt there too.
Hey Jon, needing an update on the pond build!
FarmCraft!
Awesome video! Next vid new machine??
Hey John! Here’s a nutty idea for you. Why don’t you spray the bed with the bedliner spray? I like the idea of putting it in the wheel Wells, but I also like the idea of just spraying a whole bed with it like most trucks have these days. What do you think? I know you’re not trying to make this truck a cream puff but spraying the bed seems like a reasonable thing to do for how you use the truck.
Good to see Fluid Film applied. Did not know you could get into channels like that. Well done!
Is Fluid Film flammable? Thinking about exhaust heat starting something maybe.
Are there weep holes/slits on bottom of inside rockers and doors? If there is the fluid film will block them off and they will hold water.
Jon, are you going to do anything with the inside of the bed?
Similar product in the U.K, for high wear areas I believe it should be reapplied once a year
Cheaper than a new to you truck.
What about dust and dirt sticking to the fluid film?
Yea my 2014 f150 also had tape covering the holes on the inner rockers. Engineered obsoletion
In europe its typical for cars to be coated with a rubbery, almost tar like coating. Is it not used in us?
Hi John, I have a 2003.5 Dodge 3500, but the frame is rotted. I was wondering what you thought about the add on frame repair kits on Ebay and what about welding on the frame????
I can't believe it hasn't got a wheel arch liner.... Its ALWAYS going to be covered in crud. You should cover anywhere that muds going to get in and especially where it'll get in and get trapped.
You should also have made a new flat bed with removable sides... Better steel. It'd last for ever
Here Rust Prevention undercoating companies are located in almost every city and town. Is that the case in areas of the US that use a lot of road salt?
No to fender liner. The wind will make it go everywhere
Totally worth it just to not have to buy a new truck.
The fact that you own a Dodge/Ram tells me all I need to know about you.
John, After seeing your Dodge remake, how many neighbors ask you to do their truck?
Why go through all the headaches of "rustproofing" when the area you are painting has active rustholes ?
What? No Rhino Lining protective coating sprayed-inside the truck bed? I was waiting to see you coat the inside with a spray gun.
16:34 cant tell but there might be a very slight audio/video sync issue, but then in the next scene at 17:04 it seems like you go from voice over for a few seconds back to the original audio but it gets really out of sync
not an issue in this video but worth catching what went wrong before it gets baked into a future video enough to ruin it
I miss Large Marge.
As opposed to "lowering the sucker UP..."
Tinworm is a tremendously terrible little fellow!
Don’t waste your money on the plastic wheel wells. I live in the northeast, all they do is hold the dirt in and not allow you to wash it off. I bought them for my truck and threw them away after 4 years. They “dress” the wheel wells up at first then do to heat and possible abuse they warp and curl off the frame and look horrible
🙁How come he suddenly was wearing the cap and glasses he burned 2 weeks ago in this video? Is he cheating us?
Your truck was worth $10k at the start of the week, now it cost $24k to buy it . 🤑
Vevor, made in China.
I rust proofed my vehicles I moved to the desert....
Don't US trucks come with underseal? $20,000 wow it wouldn't be worth $2000 in the UK. it wouldn't pass an MOT so not roadworthy
Vevor is inexpensive now... wait 'till the tariffs kick in... 😣🤬
Better still if any vehicle is prone to that much Rrust Don't buy it.
